"Today, I brought my friend and her kids to Winter Island around Noon time, hoping for a lucky sighting. Within three minutes I saw the first blow to the right of Winter Island Light. We got out of the car and the whale put on a good show for about 20 people, breaching once, but surfacing and swimming around. Biggest problem........Boats are chasing too fast (I read the regulations about Humpback whales). Two boats chased he/she in towards the Power Plant.Apparently, this smart whale doubled-back and left them looking, while coming back around Winter Island. The Harbormaster needs to be present and observing these folks on their boats to ensure they are not scaring or threatening this whale. These boats are not observing the speed limits around and approaching whales. Please let us enjoy and respect this unusual appearance of a Humpback Whale."; L.

"Our newest visitor spent much of his day frolicking in Salem Harbor in the water between the NE Power Plant and the Marblehead coast...He was putting on quite a show before a boat started chasing him, sending him further out. Also later in the day in the channel between Derby Wharf and Shetland Properties there was a seal. There appear to be a couple of them that have been frequenting this area this fall."; R. H.

"Hi there....the harbor whale put on a good show in Salem Harbor today. I work at Shetland Properties which overlooks the Harbor with its large windows. It spent most of the morning swimming inside the harbor, favoring the end of the long channel marker."; L.

"I sighted what I assume is the same humpback whale being observed these days this afternoon around 2:00 PM at the convergence of the Beverly and Salem Harbors - close aboard the red channel marker at the entrance to Salem Harbor. I was observing from Salem Willows. I watched for approximately 20 minutes. He/she was moving slowly on a northerly course towards Beverly Farms. Thanks very much for your update on this amazing phenomena."; R. A., Gloucester
