Preparing to feed, the whale chooses its 'attack spot', and starts its dive. Note the flipper on the left side of the body, appearing light green. Continuing its dive, the whale heads vertically down to get below the bait, but not before using its tail to create a disturbance at the surface, possibly stunning its prey.

Surfacing vertically with a distended throat full of water and, hopefully, food, water can be seen exiting the corner of the mouth as the baleen hidden inside works its magic filtration The top of the throat pleats in the skin can be seen in this and the previous photo, as well as the 'green water' of the bubble cloud created by the whale.

Flattening out into a more horizontal position, the whale continues to squeeze water out its mouth. The hair follicles on the top jaw are easily seen here. Now moving away from the camera, and still expelling sea water from its mouth, the two nostrils of the still open blowholes are easily seen.
